Abstract

The recipient of the 1989 Distinguished Service Award for the Northeast ADSA/ASAS, Lynn R. Brown, is a native of Iowa, born and reared on a farm near Waterloo. He received his B.S. degree from Iowa State University in Agricultural Education in 1950. Brown spent three years as a vocational agriculture teacher and two years in the U.S. Army. In 1959 he earned the Ph.D. degree in dairy nutrition from Iowa State University. In 1960 he accepted a position as Extension Dairy Specialist at the University of Connecticut with major responsibility for educational programs in feeding and management of dairy cattle and the 4-H dairy program. Other programs have included proper milking, mastitis control and raising better replacements. For the last three years Brown has served as the only state extension specialist in dairy at the University of Connecticut.

Beginning in 1969 Brown assumed responsibility for teaching an undergraduate course in animal nutrition; he also developed a graduate course, "Field Problems in Animal Nutrition."
