Southern Section ASAS 1989 Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

Frank H. Baker was born May 2, 1923 at Stroud, Oklahoma, and was reared on a farm in northeastern Oklahoma. His outstanding record as a 4-H member and as a student in the Animal Husbandry Department at Oklahoma State University was an indication of future accomplishments in the field of animal agriculture. His undergraduate career was interrupted in 1943 by service as a para trooper in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Oklahoma State University to complete the B.S. degree in 1947. After three years of service as a county agent and veterans agriculture instructor, he again returned to Oklahoma State University and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in animal nutrition in 1951 and 1954, respectively.

Dr. Baker's professional career has included positions in teaching and research at Kansas State University (1953–55) and the University of Kentucky (1955–58) and in extension as Extension Livestock Specialist at Oklahoma State University (1958–62).
