Southern Section ASAS 1989 Extension Award

Abstract

Henry Wise Webster was born September 5, 1938 and raised on the family crop and livestock farm in Robeson County, North Carolina. He was awarded the B.S. in Animal Science from North Carolina State University in 1960. After 2 years in the Marine Corp, Dr. Webster served in county extension positions in North Carolina and as an area representative for American Breeders Service. He returned to North Carolina State University in 1971, serving as State Beef Specialist and performing graduate work, and he earned an M.S. degree in 1973. Additional graduate work at Clemson resulted in the Ph.D. degree in 1976. Dr. Webster continued as State Beef Specialist in North Carolina until assuming his present responsibilities at Clemson University in 1979.

Under Dr. Webster's leadership the South Carolina Performance Testing program for bulls is recognized as being among the nation's best. The replacement heifer sale has built a reputation for quality animals and has significantly improved the marketing of this type of South Carolina cattle.
