Abstract

William Malcolm (Mac) Beeson was born in Meridian, Mississippi on February 3, 1911, and passed away at Home Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana on October 24, 1988. At the time of his retirement from Purdue University, as Charles J. Lynn Distinguished Professor, in 1977, he had completed 32 years as a member of the Purdue University Department of Animal Sciences.

He held degrees from Oklahoma A&M College (B.S., 1931) and the University of Wisconsin (M.S., 1932; Ph.D., 1935). Prior to joining the staff at Purdue University in 1945, he held appointments at Texas A&M University (1935–36) and the University of Idaho (1936–45), with one year (1937–38) at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Beeson joined the Purdue Animal Husbandry Department to take charge of all animal nutrition research and teaching in the department. He had an outstanding research record at Purdue, as evidenced by the publication of 150 refereed scientific papers that covered swine, beef cattle, sheep and horses.
