Western Section ASAS 1989 Extension Award

Abstract

Chad G. Gibson was born at Payette, Idaho and reared on a ranch near Midvale, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1965 with a B.S. degree and earned the M.S. degree from the University of Nevada-Reno in 1967. He currently is a doctoral candidate in the Range Science Department at the University of Idaho. Chad began his extension career in Elko County, Nevada in 1967. He transferred to the Idaho Agricultural Extension Service in October 1968 as County Chairman in Adams County.

Chad is the most outstanding livestock agent in Idaho, and probably in the Northwest. Throughout his career, he has been an innovator in livestock programing. He first received widespread recognition for the Adams County Beef Cattle Herd Health Guide, which he first published in 1970 and re-issued with revisions in 1974, 1980 and 1981. This was the first look in Idaho at scheduling herd health immunizations to maximize the efficacy of products.
