Abstract

Dr. C. W. Newman was born, raised and received his early schooling in Louisiana. His M.S. degree at Texas A&M University came between B.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Louisiana State University. Following the completion of this latter degree he joined the faculty at Montana State University as Assistant Professor of Animal Science. For the past 25 years he has worked tirelessly to enhance the competitive position of those in the swine industry in Montana and the West by researching nutritional aspects of those feedstuffs available in the region.

Throughout his career Dr. Newman has forged alliances with scientists in numerous other departments and disciplines to answer researchable questions in an interdisciplinary mode long before it was fashionable to do so. Cooperators have included plant breeders, human nutritionists, physicians, plant pathologists, microbiologists, biochemists, animal scientists and others at Montana State University, as well as investigators at state, federal and international locations.
