Northeast Section ASAS-ADSA 1988 Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

Born December 22, 1921, Dr. Lewellyn S. Mix was raised on the family-owned dairy farm at Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County, New York.After serving in the U.S. Army he was graduated from the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell in 1946 with a B.S. degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agricultural Economics. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Dairy Science from the University of Minnesota in 1952 under the guidance of Dr. W. E. Peterson. As a graduate student he managed the University dairy herd for three years and coached the University Dairy Cattle Judging Team for four years.

He joined Beacon Milling Company, Cayuga, New York as Director of Dairy Research in 1952. during a fourteen-year career with Beacon he co-authored three editions of the book Profitable Dairy Management, which was used as a text and reference by many two-year agricultural colleges and high schools in the Northeast.
