Abstract

Gregory S. Lewis was born on October 9, 1949, in Rockwood, Tennessee. At the age of 10, he began raising and showing Tennessee Walking Horses, which kindled his interest in reproductive problems of livestock. He earned the B.S. degree (1973) in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, the M.S. degree (1974) in Reproductive Physiology under the guidance of Dr. R. L. Murphree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and the Ph.D. degree (1978) in Reproductive Physiology under the direction of Dr. E. K. Inskeep at West Virginia University. From 1978 to 1980, Lewis was a postdoctoral fellow in the Interdisciplinary Reproductive Biology Program at the University of Florida, where he worked with Drs. W. W. Thatcher, F. W. Bazer and R. M. Roberts. From February 1980 to July 1988, Lewis was a Research Physiologist in the Reproduction Laboratory at USDA's Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. Currently, Lewis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.
