Western Section ASAS 1988 Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

Conrad J. Kercher has excelled in service to the livestock industry, in teaching and in service to the American Society of Animal Science for over 30 years. He was born June 17, 1926 in Yakima, Washington and reared on a crops and livestock farm near Bridger, Montana. He received the B.S. degree in Animal Industry from Montana State College (1950) and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University (1952, 1954). Upon completion of the Ph.D. degree, he joined the Animal Science faculty at the University of Wyoming, where he attained the rank of Professor in 1962. He served as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs at the university from January, 1975 to June, 1976 and as Head of the Department of Animal Science from 1987 until the present time. His service to the animal industry covered a wide spectrum, emphasizing range cattle and sheep nutrition and beef cattle nutrition in the feedlot.
