Abstract

Clarence Bailey Ammerman was born in Harrison County, Kentucky on May 21, 1929, and was reared on a general livestock farm. He received the B.S. degree in 1951 and the M.S. degree in 1952 from the University of Kentucky and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois in 1956. After two years of military service with the Army Medical and Nutrition Laboratory at Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado, he joined the faculty of the Animal Science Department at the University of Florida, where he advanced from Assistant Professor to Professor.

Dr. Ammerman's primary research contributions have been in the area of mineral nutrition. He and his colleagues have published extensively on the toxicity, interrelationships and bio-availability of mineral elements. Their research has involved several different minerals and species, and it has helped elucidate many complex interactions among various minerals and between certain minerals and other nutrients within the diet.
