Midwestern Section ASAS 1988 Younger Animal Scientist Award - Research

Abstract

Stephen P. Ford was born on October 11, 1948 in Palo Alto, California. At the age of 10, his family moved to a livestock and fescue farm in the Ankeny Hills near Salem, Oregon, where he took an active interest in livestock rearing and 4-H activities. In 1967, he attended Oregon State University majoring in Animal Science and received his B.S. degree in 1971. After graduation he attended West Virginia University, where he received his M.S. degree in Reproductive Physiology under the direction of Dr. E. K. Inskeep in 1973. After serving briefly as manager of the family farm, he returned to Oregon State University and received his Ph.D. degree under the direction of Dr. F. Stormshak in 1977. Dr. Ford then accepted a position at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska as Research Physiologist. In 1979, he joined the Iowa State University faculty as an Associate Professor of Animal Science, then advanced to the rank of Professor in 1985.
