President's Address—1988

C. Brent Theurer

University of Arizona, Tucson

Abstract

It has been a distinct privilege to serve as President of the American Society of Animal Science this past year. Whan an exciting, busy, productive year for me! I trust that the new animal sciences career brochure has been seen by all of you and I hope that it will be helpful to many of you for recruitment opportunities in animal agriculture. The Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Agricultural Research and Teaching has been published and distributed to various institutions. Our Society had a major role in development of the consortium. As most of you know, Irvin Omtvedt headed up this consortium and Stanley Curtis was the chair of the six writing committees responsible for the various species guidelines.

Publishing a quality journal and providing an annual forum for sharing knowledge and ideas is a paramount function of our Society. The role of ASAS as introduced at our Diamond Jubilee Meeting in 1983 and as denoted on the current stationery letterhead is "serving human needs through animal agriculture."
