Northeast Section ASAS 1987 Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

Edgar P. Young was born in Van Wert County, Ohio, on February 17, 1928. He worked on the family farm from an early age and was active in planning the farm operations at the same time he attended high school and later while he was engaged in undergraduate studies. During his high school studies, he was active in the Future Farmers of America and received the State and American Farmer Degrees. He was inducted into the United States Army, served in the Intelligence Corps in Korea in 1951 and 1952, returned to Ohio and completed his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Ohio State University. Upon completion of his graduate studies in 1958, he was employed by the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1965 and then to Professor in 1970. He served as Chairman of the Department of Animal Science from 1968 until August 1982, when it was merged with Dairy Science to form the Animal Sciences Department.
