Memorial John William Hibbs

Abstract

Dr. John W. Hibbs, 70, died at his home in Wooster, Ohio on August 19, 1987 of an apparent heart attack. He retired in 1983 as Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Dairy Science at the Ohio State University, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Wooster after 43 years of service.

Dr. Hibbs was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 2, 1917. He lived most of his pre-graduate school years on a series of dairy farms, managed by his father and located in middle and north-eastern Ohio.

Following graduation from Greensburg High School, Hibbs began his college work at Kent State University. He received his B.S. in Agricultural from Ohio State University in 1940, where he specialized in Animal Husbandry and pledged to the Alpha Zeta Fraternity. During the last 2 years of undergraduate study, he worked as a laboratory assistant to Dr. T. S. Sutton, who became his graduate advisor for the M.S. degree, which he received in 1941.
