Abstract

PURINA MILLS FELLOWSHIP AWARD COMMITTEE

The Purina Mills Fellowship Award Committee met in St. Louis in mid-April to select five winners of the Fellowship for 1987-88 and five alternates. The number of fellowships awarded was reduced by one from previous years, but the amount of the stipend was increased by Purina Mills from $6,400 to 8,000 at the suggestion of the committee. There were a total of 59 applicants who were anticipating entering a graduate program or were already pursuing a graduate degree. Major fields of study were represented by 34 applicants in Animal Science, 13 in Dairy Science and 12 in Poultry Science. As in previous years, selection of award winners was difficult because of the outstanding quality of all of the applicants. Selection of the winners was based upon their academic performance as undergraduates and graduates, as well as the quality of their proposed research projects. Two of the five fellowships were awarded to the following individuals pursuing advanced degrees in Animal Science: Renee J. Knutson, Purdue University and Yves R. Boisclair, Cornell University.
