Northeast Section ASAS-ADSA 1987 Young Scientist Award

Abstract

Born November 14, 1952, James E. Nocek was raised on a dairy and grape farm in western New York. He received the A.A.S. from Alfred State College, Alfred, New York; B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University; M.S. in Dairy Science from The Pennsylvania State University and Ph.D. in Animal Science from Virginia Tech (1980), where he was a post- doctoral fellow.

Dr. Nocek joined the Agway Research and Development Department in 1980. The University of New Hampshire appointed him Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science in 1983. Currently, he is Manager of Dairy and Livestock Research for Agway, Inc., Syracuse, New York.

Rarely do young scientists make as significant and varied contributions to animal agriculture on a regional and national level as has Dr. Nocek during the 7 yr since he received the Ph.D. degree. He developed a new way to quantitate non-structural carbohydrate NSC levels in feedstuffs used to formulate dairy rations.
