Western Section ASAS 1986 Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

William N. Garrett was born June 8, 1926 on a farm near Cresson, in Western Pennyslvania. After graduation from high school in 1944 and service in the U.S. Navy (1944 to 1946), he enrolled at Pennsylvania State University, earning the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Animal Husbandry. His Ph.D. in Nutrition was obtained from the University of California, Davis in February 1958. He was immediately appointed to the position of Assistant Animal Husbandman by the University of California and began his productive career at the Imperial Valley Field Station, El Centro, California. He transferred to the Davis campus in the summer of 1963 and progressed through the ranks to his current appointment as Professor of Animal Science.

Dr. Garrett has an impressive record of research, with over 225 publications. These publications are almost equally divided between scientific papers and the more-applied reports for livestock days, industry conferences or the popular press.
