Dr. Maurice L. Ray, Professor Emeritus of Animal Sciences, died December 15, 1985. He was born November 14, 1920 in West Fork, Arkansas and remained a life long resident of that community. He received his B.S. in Agriculture and the M.S. degree from the University of Arkansas and the Ph.D. degree in 1953 from the University of Illinois. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was an instructor and instructor supervisor in the Air Corps Radio Mechanics school. He was employed by the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Arkansas in 1946 and, except for a period of leave for graduate study in 1952 and 1953, he was associated with the beef cattle research and teaching program in many different capacities until his retirement in 1983 due to poor health.
Dr. Ray was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge, member of the Eastern Star, past President of the Downtown Fayetteville Rotary Club.
