Abstract

SOCIETY FOR RANGE MANAGEMENT

The 38th Annual Meeting of the Society for Range Management was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 11–14, 1985. A special emphasis was placed on honoring charter members who met in Salt Lake City in 1948. A record 1,547 registered for the meeting. Approximately 140 of the 192 charter members were present.

Joseph L. Schuster, President, from Texas A&M University opened the plenary session. Jake E. Garn, U.S. Senator from Utah, Ron Michieli, Director of Natural Resources, National Cattlemen's Association; John Lear, Attorney, Secretary-Treasurer and former Director of the Institute for Resource Management, and Max Peterson, Chief USDA Forest Service, discussed prudent use of the nation's rangeland resource for livestock production and other uses. Jack D. Brotherson, Brigham Young University, discussed Utah's rangelands and Leonard J. Arrington, Salt Lake City, discussed livestock in Utah and the Great Basin - the first 150 years.

Forty-eight papers were given on the subject of range animal nutrition and grazing management.
