Southern Section ASAS 1985 Young Animal Scientist Award

Abstract

The 1985 recipient of the Southern Section Young Animal Scientist Award is Jeffery Wyatt Savell. Dr. Savell was born January 30, 1954, in Dallas, Texas. His interest in animal agriculture began with his involvement in Vocational Agriculture and FFA projects with beef cattle and sheep and participation in judging team activities. After graduation from Ferris High School, Dr. Savell enrolled at Texas A&M University and received the B.S. degree in Animal Science cum laude in 1975, an M.S. degree in 1976 and a Ph.D. in 1978. Dr. Savell joined the Extension Service of Texas A&M University as a Meats Specialist. In 1979 he joined the Meats and Muscle Biology Section of the Department of Animal Science as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1983.

As an Extension Meats Specialist, Dr. Savell was extremely effective in working with the agribusiness industry, meat industry firms, producers and consumer groups.
