Reports from Representatives of the Society

Abstract

COUNCIL FOR AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Dr. Charles Black provided each of the ASAS board members with a detailed report of the involvement of ASAS members in CAST activities. From that report it is obvious that ASAS members have contributed greatly to the CAST activities.

The scientific society members control CAST's activities. The guidance supplied by the Board of Directors, on which ASAS has two representatives, is essential to the unity of agriculture science and the effectiveness of CAST. The collaboration of the scientific societies (now 25) in their joint endeavor in CAST has made it possible to address, in their full complexity, the national issues in food and agriculture, which are predominantly multi-disciplinary. Also, as Dr. Black points out, the collaboration of the societies in CAST has made it possible to develop considerable funding from sources other than the societies. These additional funds greatly extend the effectiveness of the seed money and scientific input from the societies.
