President William N. Garrett called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM on August 9, 1984 immediately following the Elanco-sponsored breakfast and speaker program in the Hearnes Multipurpose Building fieldhouse, University of Missouri, Columbia. President Garrett introduced current officers and directors. Curtiss Bailey was introduced as the new Editor-in-Chief. New incoming directors include: Bobby D. Moser, Midwestern; G. P. Lynch, Northeast; Bryan Baker, Jr., Southern; Donald E. Ray, Western.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT
He noted that ASAS had been honored by the Angus Association which had presented the Society with a replica of Michael Garman's "Drifter." This momento will be placed in the ASAS office. He noted that a manuscript submission form had been initiated as of 1 January 1984 to clarify author status and in consideration of possible legal implications relative to publishing manuscripts.
President Garrett stated that two new Awards had been approved by the Board of Directors for implementation in 1985: American Society of Animal Science Outstanding Research Paper Award, sponsored by Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc.; American Society of Animal Science L. E. Casida Award to be given at the Biennial Reproduction Symposium.
