A careful reading of the Proceedings of the Society for 1983 (JAS 57:1637) under the heading Midyear Board Meeting, will uncover these words: "In an effort to preserve a record of significant ASAS activities, the President's address will be reinstated at future annual meetings and published in the December issue of the Journal of Animal Science starting in 1984."
If I have researched the records correctly, the last Presidential Address was given 15 years ago by Dr. J. L. Krider of Purdue University at the Annual Meeting held at Purdue (JAS 29:1006, 1969). Not all presidents before that gave addresses; in the 1950's brief remarks seemed most popular. In one very early instance, under President's Address we find these words "After eight months of persistent effort to secure a copy of the President's Address, the secretary regrets exceedingly that he is forced to publish the proceedings without...the admirable address of our President."
