Robert M. Melampy, Professor Emeritus, died May 27, 1984 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services were held on May 31 at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
Robert Melampy was born on a small farm in Lebanon, Ohio April 1, 1909. He received the B.S. degree (Chemistry) from Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio in 1930; the M.A. degree (Chemistry) from Haverford College, Haverford, Pennsylvania in 1931; and the Ph.D. degree (Physiology and Biochemistry) from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York in 1935. He married Carolyn Tibout in 1937 and they have one daughter, Kathleen. Dr. Melampy was employed as an Assistant Physiologist in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1936–1941), Assistant Professor of Physiology at Louisiana State University (1941–1942), U.S. Army (1942–1946), Associate Professor of Physiology at University of Illinois (1946–1948), Associate Professor of Physiology at Louisiana State University (1948–1949) and Associate Professor of Physiology at Iowa State University (1949–1950). In 1950, he joined the Department of Animal Science as Professor of Animal Science (Physiology of Reproduction).
