Robert R. Oltjen1,2,

American Society of Animal Science

Abstract

Although many historical events and significant milestones may be cited concerning the 75 yr of existence of the American Society of Animal Science, perhaps four are of prime importance: 1) The founding in 1908 and the early nurture of the Society. 2) Changing the emphasis and, along with this, the name of the Society from Nutrition to Production (1912) and finally to Science (1961). 3) The starting, in 1942, development, expansion and prestige of the Journal of Animal Science. 4) Movement of the annual meeting site to university settings starting in 1963 and the focus on scientific aspects of animal production.
