Abstract

George E. Seidel, Jr. was born on July 13, 1943 at Reading, Pennsylvania and developed an early interest in animal agriculture while growing up on a dairy farm. He obtained his B.S. degree in dairy science from Pennsylvania State University in 1965 and his graduate degrees were earned from Cornell University (M.S. in 1968 and Ph.D. in 1970) with primary emphasis on physiology, biochemistry and physical biology. After leaving Cornell, Dr. Seidel spent a year at Harvard as a research fellow before accepting a position in reproductive physiology at Colorado State University. He has maintained employment in Colorado since 1971 except for 1 year which he spent at Yale University as a visiting professor in developmental biology. Dr. Seidel and his wife, Sarah, were married in 1970 and have one child.

Dr. Seidel has devoted his professional career to research, teaching and service to improve fertility and genetics, principally of cattle.
