Western Section ASAS Young Scientist Award, 1982

Abstract

Peter J. Burfening is a Professor in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at Montana State University. He was born in Reno, Nevada, but spent most of his youth in Colorado graduating from Littleton High School. He received a B.S. degree in Dairy Science from Colorado State University in 1964 and was awarded M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from North Carolina State University in 1967 and 1968 in Physiology with a minor in Genetics where he studied under Dr. Les Ulberg. In 1968 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Animal Science at Montana State University. His excellence in teaching and research was rewarded by promotion to Associate Professor in 1973 and to Professor in 1978.

Dr. Burfening has made considerable contributions to knowledge in animal agriculture through independent research and interdisciplinary investigations with others in the fields of genetics and physiology. His research has provided many needed answers to questions in the area of genetics of reproduction.
