Northeastern Section ADSA-ASAS Young Scientist Award, 1982

Abstract

Dr. Richard L. Quaas, Associate Professor, Department of Animal Science, Cornell University, was the recipient of the 1982 Young Scientist Award sponsored by the Northeast Division ADSA and Northeastern Section ASAS. He was born April 11, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and raised on a general livestock and crops farm near Alburnett, Iowa. He received his B.S. in animal science in 1966 at Iowa State University, graduating with distinction. He obtained his M.S. in 1970 and Ph.D. in 1973 at Colorado State University majoring in animal breeding and statistics. Dr. Quaas received an NDEA graduate fellowship from 1968 to 1971. Between obtaining his B.S. in 1966 and beginning his graduate study in 1968, Dr. Quaas served one year as a Peace Corps volunteer in the capacity of agricultural specialist in Ecuador and one year in partnership at his family's farm. In 1973, he joined the faculty in the Department of Animal Science, Cornell University, with responsibilities in teaching and research in the area of animal breeding.
