Harry B. McLachlin, Professor Emeritus, California State Polytechnic University — a practical cattleman, loved and respected by students and a friend to all — died Saturday, April 4, 1981 at Ventura, California. He was 75 years of age. Professor McLachlin was born July 22, 1905 and was reared in North Dakota. He was awarded a B.S. degree in Agriculture from North Dakota State University in 1930. Following 7 years of farming, in which he was successful in retiring the indebtedness from the family farm, Harry became an Extension Livestock Specialist for North Dakota State University. This experience was followed by service with the Iowa Agriculture News and Marketing Association in Des Moines.
Mr. McLachlin enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the Medical Department, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer, until 1946 when he was discharged at Oakland, California.
Professor McLachlin joined the Animal Science Dept. at San Luis Obispo in 1954 and served until 1959 when he assumed the duties of Dept. Chairman at the Pomona campus.
