Elliott Roy Barrick was born in Worthington, Minnesota, on February 7, 1915. He grew up on a livestock farm near Enid, Oklahoma, and received his BS degree from Oklahoma A&M in 1938. He was an assistant professor at Massachusetts State College for 1 year and he obtained a MS and PhD in Animal Nutrition from Purdue University in 1941 and 1947, respectively. During World War II, he served as a Nutrition officer in the US Army. Dr. Barrick accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Animal Husbandry at Purdue in 1947 and moved to the University of Tennessee in 1948. He joined the faculty at North Carolina State College in 1949 and served as Head of the Animal Husbandry Section from 1954 to 1970. Dr. Barrick's research contributions are attested by the fact that he is author or co-author of some 80 scientific publications and over 130 popular articles.
