Southern Section ASAS 1981 Distinguished Extension Award

Abstract

1981 Extension Award, Southern Section-left to right-John Bonner, IMC Representative, donor of the $500 cash award; Dr. Arden Huff, recipient; and Dr. Dennis Herd, Chairman, Award Committee.

The recipient of the 1981 American Society of Animal Science-Southern Section Distinguished Extension Worker Award is Arden N. Huff. Arden was recognized for his outstanding accomplishments as Extension Animal Scientist at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State Univeristy where he has carried out an examplary program in the area of 4-H youth livestock and horse programs as well as adult horse programs. For his efforts he has received national acclaim.

Arden Nelson Huff was born and reared on a general livestock farm in Carroll County, Virginia. He received a BS degree with honors in Animal Science from VPI&SU and graduate degrees from Montana State University and the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Huff has served as a county Extension agent, as a meat inspector in the US Army, as Agricultural Manager of the Virginia State Fair, as an Extension Livestock Specialist at the University of Maryland and as an Extension Specialist in charge of 4-H livestock work and currently in charge of the Horse Program in Virginia.
