Northeastern Section ASAS Distinguished Service Award, 1980

Abstract

Nathan Strong Hale was born April 22, 1924 in Middletown, CT. In 1946 he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Animal Husbandry. While in college he served as treasurer and then president of the Block and Bridle Club and manager of the Fall Livestock Show and of the Spring Horse Show. He joined the staff of University of Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor in 1946. In 1954 he became Associate Professor of Animal Science at the University of Connecticut and was promoted to Professor in 1961. During his tenure on the staff at the University of Massachusetts he earned his M.S. degree, in 1948, from the University of Minnesota. He completed his Ph.D. in Animal Breeding at the University of Minnesota in 1956.

At the University of Connecticut, Dr. Hale has been responsible for the Animal Husbandry Section. His primary area of expertise in recent years has been with beef cattle, sheep and swine management and production courses, and genetics and systems of breeding.
