The Influence of High-Protein and Low-Protein-High-Starch Diets on Blood Glucose and Acetone Bodies of Pregnant Ewes1

Abstract

Conclusions: Ewes maintained on a low protein diet for approximately ioo days prior to parturition did not develop hypoglycemia or ketonemia during the period of pregnancy even when the energy intake was limited to yo percent of requirements. However, a mild hypoglycemia did develop following parturition in both the high and the low protein groups.
