Honorary Fellows of the American Society of Animal Science 1979

Abstract

Charles Henry Adams was born in Burdick, Kansas on November 7, 1918. He received his B.S. from Kansas State in 1941 and M. S. in 1942 From 1942 to 1946 he was a nutrition officer in the U.S. Army. After the war, he returned to Kansas State as Assistant Instructor, and in 1947 was appointed to the Animal Husbandry Department at the University of Nebraska as Assistant Professor (meat science). His involvement in teaching soon made him realize that the future of animal agriculture rests predominantly with the undergraduate student, but is strongly augmented through the graduate program. The latter point led him to continue his own education, and he completed his Ph.D. at Michigan State in 1964. He was promoted to Associate Professor upon his return to Nebraska, and to Professor in 1970. In 1973 he became Assistant Director of Resident Instruction, and in 1974 Assistant Dean, of the College of Agriculture.
