Honor Guest and Honororay Member of American Society of Animal Science 1979

Abstract

Eric J. Underwood was born in London, England, and reared on a farm in Western Australia. He was graduated with a B. Sci. in Agriculture from the University of Western Australia. He completed graduate studies at the University of Cambridge, receiving the Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition in 1931. From 1931 to 1936 Dr. Underwood served as Research Officer in Animal Nutrition in the Western Australia Department of Agriculture. From 1936 to 1938 he studied at the University of Wisconsin in the Department of Biochemistry with Professors E. B. Hart and C. A. Elvehjem. From 1939 to 1945 he continued with the Western Australia Department of Agriculture as Research Officer in Animal Nutrition and as a visiting lecturer at the University of Western Australia. From 1946 until he retired in 1970 he was associated with the University of Western Australia as Hackett Professor of Agriculture, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Director of Institute of Agriculture.
