Abstract

Two measurements of withers height, hip height, weight, condition score and milk production were obtained on 115 Hereford cows during two periods for the first 8 weeks of lactation. Repeatabilities for physical measurements were .94, .95, .89, .85, .85 and .80, respectively, for withers height, hip height, weight,

and condition score. Production trait repeatabilities were .55, .61, .79 and .72, respectively, for 4-, 8- and 16-hr milk production estimates and calf average daily gain. Age of dam had a significant effect on all estimates of milk production. Correlations among physical measurements and milk production estimates were small and nonsignificant. Correlations between calf average daily gain and milk production were .27, .46 and .45, respectively, for 4-, 8- and 16-hr estimates.
