Abstract
Variability in 5,564 calving intervals of 1,958 Brahman cows from 10 private herds with year-round breeding, located in different regions of Venezuela, was analyzed within each herd to estimate repeatability. The basic least-squares model included effects of year and month of the calving which initiated the interval, cow and age of cow at calving. Least-square means for calving intervals varied among herds from 412.86 ± 4.19 to 565.61 ± 11.30 days. Individual herd repeatabilities were .05, .08, .09, .13, .25, .29, .29, .32, .36 and .50.
1 Collaboration of the following ranches, which supplied the basic data, is appreciated: Central Matilde, Coquito, Copra, Los Embalses, Gonzalero, La Herrereña, La Marroquina, Piñero, Santa Clara and La Vaca.
