Abstract

The business meeting agenda of the AAAS-Section O included several items that should be of general interest to ASAS members. Selected items from that agenda are as follows:

  1. AAAS - Fellow Policy - the question of the ap-propriatness and effectiveness of the existing policy has been challenged. Adequacy and consistency of screening candidates nominated by the various sections are the primary points of concern. Section O favors continuation of the policy with a strong standardized screening policy.
  2. Agricultural articles in Science Magazine -topics suggested by Section O Committee have appeared in the magazine. The Committee will continue to suggest appropriate agriculturally related topics for consideration as major articles.
  3. Symposium funding support may now be generated from publication receipts. Section O has not yet benefited from this policy but the policy offers the potential of strengthening the symposium structure.
  4. Some controversy developed over the change in location from Chicago to Houst on because the State of Illinois had not passed the Equal Rights Amendment.
