Abstract
Two experiments were conducted with four fistulated heifers to determine effects of potassium intake upon estimation of rumen potassium, body potassium and body composition. Increasing potassium intake increased rumen potassium in both experiments but did not affect estimates of body potassium content or of body composition in either experiment. Evacuation of rumen contents decreased estimates of body K and body composition. Gut radioactivity appeared to be a major source of variation that must be controlled, although dietary K seemed to be of little importance.
