Southern Section A.S.A.S. Distinguished Service Award

Abstract

Samuel L. Hansard, the recipient of the 1977 Distinguished Service Award of the Southern Section of the American Society of Animal Science, is Professor of Animal Science on the staff of the Comparative Animal Research Laboratory of the University of Tennessee. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on June 5, 1914. He received the B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1937, and M.S. degrees from the University of Tennessee and Ohio State University in 1938 and 1941, respectively. His Ph.D. degree was awarded by the University of Florida in 1952.

Dr. Hansard has been unusually productive in research in the area of animal nutrition, being author or co-author of more than 300 scientific publications. Widespread recognition of his research contributions is evidenced by his having received numerous research awards, including the American Feed Manufacturers Association Award (1966), The Gustav Bohstedt Award (1970) and the Morrison Award (1976). To elaborate further on his research career would be rebundant, since it has recently been well described.
