Committee Reports

Abstract

With the advent of data bases for information storage and retrieval of literature and scientific data, new tools must be developed and used in order to participate in and remain a viable force in the scientific community. Further, with the Board's recent decision to require the author of each journal article to assign keywords, immediate action is required to establish a vocabulary to handle similar keywords for articles as well as for indexing the Journal. The committee recommends that the American Society of Animal Science maintain its professional leadership in the agricultural field by initiating a basic plan for an animal science thesarus, or more broadly, for the agricultural-life sciences

The committee further recommends that the Society join forces with the American Dairy Science Association, Poultry Science Association, and the Society for the Study of Reproduction in exploring methods for the compilation of such a vocabulary acceptable by and for the use of these four societies, and offers the following suggestions for the implementation of a thesaurus.
