Abstract

Tritiated diethylstilbestrol (DES) was subcutaneously implanted in two young calves at 2, 5 and 61 days of age. The excretion patterns of radioactivity and levels in urine, feces and blood were measured over 98 days. Residual levels of radioactivity in saliva, tissues and organs were determined at slaughter. Radioactivity was 10 times higher in feces dry matter than in undried urine and blood. Feces radioactivity was almost completely associated with free DES. Feces may be the most suitable sampling material at slaughter for reliable DES detection.
