University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada

Abstract

The selenium content of liver and longissimus muscle tissue from 94 pigs in Canada fed various diets was determined. Dietary selenium ranged between .06 and .61 µg/g dry matter; liver selenium between .93 and 2.76 and longissimus muscle selenium between .38 and 1.84 µg/g dry matter. The relationship between dietary selenium and tissue selenium was estimated to be: Liver Se = .971 + 5.79 Diet Se –4.74 Diet Se2 , R2 = 5.15;Muscle Se = .154 + 5.264 Diet Se –4.526 Diet Se2 , R2 = 63.3.
