Abstract

Roy J. Martin is Associate Professor of Animal Nutrition in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University. He was born January 3, 1943, in Lutcher, Louisiana. Dr. Martin received the B.S. from the University of Southwest Louisiana, the M.S. degree in Dairy Science with minors in Nutrition and Biochemistry from the University of Florida in 1965, and the Ph.D. Dr. Roy J. Martin in Animal Nutrition with a minor in Biochemistry from the University of California in 1970.

Since his appointment to The Pennsylvania State University faculty in 1970, Dr. Martin has developed and conducted a research program emphasizing the integration of physiology, nutrition, and biochemistry. Using animals with varying genetic propensities for muscle and fat deposition, he and his colleagues are characterizing metabolic and endocrine patterns which are essential to events which regulate protein and fatty acid synthesis. Techniques used in these studies include: enzyme analysis, isotopic tracer studies in vivo and in vitro, metabolic measurements, bioassays, and radioimmunoassays.
