Abstract
A total of 1,117 sheep fetuses was recovered from sheep at all stages of pregnancy. Data were recorded on the orientation of fetuses in utero in relation to the estimated stage of pregnancy. Data were divided into 10-day stages of pregnancy, as estimated from crown-rump measurements, and the proportion of fetuses in anterior presentation was tested against a random distribution (50:50) by means of chi-square tests. The proportion of fetuses in anterior presentation was significantly different (P<.05) from 50:50 during the following stages of pregnancy: 81 to 90, 101 to 110, and 111 to 120 days pregnant. Later than 120 days, too few fetuses were examined to determine significant differences although the great majority were in anterior presentation. Significantly fewer (P<.05) twin fetuses were in anterior presentation during the 101 to 110 and 111 to 120-day stages of pregnancy than single fetuses.
