Abstract
A review of growth curve analyses in the laboratory mouse and rat is presented. The growth process is discussed in terms of total body size and its components, cellular development and body composition. Genetic and nutritional factors influencing growth and development are emphasized. The effects of selection for growth rate on the growth curve and on body composition are reviewed.
