Abstract
Three balance trials and one 42-day feeding trial with growing pigs were conducted. Sixteen, 12.0 and 10.8% crude protein fortified corn-soybean diets were fed. Average results of the three balance trials showed that 55 mg/kg of methyl-3-(2-quinoxalinylmethylene) carba-zate-N1, N4-dioxide (identified as carbadox)/kg of diet significantly (P<.01) increased apparent nitrogen digestibility and nitrogen retained. Apparent energy digestibility was nonsignificantly higher from the carbadox diet. In the 42-day feeding trial, 55 mg carbadox/kg of diet significantly (P<.05) increased average daily gain. Daily feed and gain per unit of feed consumed were nonsigificantly higher. Three littermate pairs were necropsied after 53 days on the respective diets. Integrity of stomach, intestinal and other organ tissues was apparently unaffected by dietary treatment.
