Comparison of Alternative Sire Evaluation Methods

C. R. Henderson

Cornell University1, Ithaca, New York 14853

Abstract

Analytical methods have been derived for comparing alternative sire evaluation methods. The criteria used for comparison are unbiasedness and prediction error variance. The consequences of ignoring certain fixed effects, of ignoring certain random effects, of computing as though random effects are fixed, of discarding part of the data, and of using data resulting from selection are evaluated analytically.
