A Systems Analysis Course for Animal Science

Ling-Jung Koong, R. Lee Baldwin and James G. Morris1

University of California,2, Davis 95616

Abstract

A new course entitled "An Introduction to Applications of Systems Analysis in Animal Science" was developed and offered to students during the Winter Quarter of 1974 at the University of California, Davis. The course covered three main areas: Computer programming, linear programming and mathematical modelling. The primary objective was to introduce students to the application of several techniques of systems analysis to animal science with emphasis on linear programming and mathematical modelling. The course was successful as judged from the interest, progress and responses of the students.

Footnotes

1 The authors wish to thank all the students who put in a great deal of time and effort to make the course successful. Thanks are also due to Dr. D. L. Bath for providing materials on the computer program for maximizing income above feed cost from dairy cattle.
