Abstract
Concentrations of the total protein and the immunoglobulinsubclass IgG2 in serum were determined from unselected half-sib groups of registered herds of Red Danish Cattle. The sampling was made in April 1972, comprising individuals from 4 to 38 months of age.
Correction for age reduced the variance for total protein and IgG2 by 11 and 12%, respectively. Higher ages, in both cases, corresponded with higher values. The serum-IgG2 concentration corrected for total protein and age showed an almost normal distribution ranging from about 0 mg/100 ml to more than 700 mg/100 ml.
The simple correlation between total protein and IgG2 in serum was .49. However, this includes some autocorrelation.
Heritability estimates of the two traits suggested a slight genetic influence on total protein (h2 = .09 ± .07) and IgG2 (h2 = .12 ± .08).
